As many as 100,000 Russian battalion will be nearing in Belarus
in Sep for a Zapad battalion exercises, and with them will
be a storied tank corps.

The 1st Guards Tank Army, a ancestral corps-sized
arrangement that President Vladimir Putin re-assembled in
2015, is being sent to take partial in a Zapad military
exercise, that means “west” in Russian.

A series of western generals and politicians have expressed
regard about the
Zapad battalion practice in a final few months.

“People are disturbed this is a Trojan horse,” US Army
Gen. Ben Hodges

told
 Reuters in July. “They
say, ‘We’re usually doing an exercise,’ and afterwards all of a sudden
they’ve changed all these people and capabilities
somewhere.”

“For Russian battalion going to Belarus, it is a one-way
ticket,” Estonia’s Defense Minister Margus
Tsahkna told Reuters
in April.

Coincidentally or not, a 1st Guards Tank Army was
re-assembled “to vacate a hazard from a Baltic
countries,” according
to Zvezda, a Russian Defense Ministry
news outlet.

Formed in 1943, a Russian tank army done ruin for the
Nazis in World War II.

The “1st Guards Tank Army was arguably a many famous of
a 6 tank armies a Soviets shaped during a Soviet-German
War,” historian David Glantz wrote.

The tank army was instrumental in a conflict of Kursk, in
fighting in Ukraine, as good as in a Soviet Union’s advance
into Poland and eventually Berlin, Glantz said.

In 1944, it raced by Ukraine and surrounded a Nazi’s
1st Panzer Division for that it was given a “Guards”
designation, Glantz said. The tank army afterwards led a allege to
Berlin where it surrounded a city.

The tank army was also instrumental in the
quelling of a 1968 Prague Spring.

“The
Russians know a significance, and so do a Belorussians
and Ukrainians,” Glantz said.

The tank army is ordered by Maj. Gen.
Alexander Chaiko, and consists of 35,000 to
50,000 soldiers, 800 tanks, 600 to
800 battalion vehicles, and 300
to 400 artillery
units.

More specifically, a tank army will be armed
with T-72B3 and T-80 tanks, BPM-2 fight vehicles and 130
other kinds of fight equipment.

BPM-2s are light-armored amphibious vehicles that competition a
30mm involuntary canon. Both a T-72B3 and T-80
have 9M119 Refleks anti-tank guided barb systems that fire
from their 125mm canons. But a former is positively a main
tank in Russia’s arsenal, as they have about 1,900 in use and
7,000 in reserve.

The tank army is also slated to be a initial section to
accept a modernized T-14 Armata tank,
though due to bill problems, it still has not been put into mass
production.

Despite the tank army’s storied past, that it was
dictated to vanquish NATO in
a probable Third World War, and that it’s being sent to NATO’s
borders usually dual years after being re-assembled, Russia has
done contradictory
statements about how its to be used.

Russian battalion consultant Victor Murakhovsky has pronounced that a tank
army is usually dictated to be stationed in Moscow,
while

Russian Gen. Eugene Buzhinsky has
said “if
earlier, [Russia] had really assuage groups [military formations] oriented toward a Western direction, now they will be
significantly strengthened.

Whatever a case, Baltic States have means for concern, as
many have been regularly victimized by Russia’s hybrid
warfare, that some contend is a main
reason a 1st Guards Tank Army was re-assembled in a first
place.
